Southwark

Informations of Witnesses taken
at the Parish of Saint Thomas within the
Borough of Southwark in the County of
Surrey on the 22d day of June 1792 on view
of the Body of Margaret Smith< no role > now here
lying dead.

William Cook< no role > Servant to Messrs. Goss & Benwill of Battersea
in the County of Surrey Distillers maketh Oath that he and
and William Thompson< no role > also a servant to same persons were
on Tuesday last employed in attending a [..] Wind Mill
belonging to their said Masters situate on Battersea Bank
near the River Thames That about ten Minutes before One
OClock of same day the deced came to the Mill with a Child
walking with her that she asked to look at the Mill
that Dept. left the deced within said the Mill along with
Thompson and the Child in Company with her and went
down Stairs in order to put his Cloaths on to go to his Dinner
that while Dept. was buckling one of his Shoes he heard the
Mill give a sudden Jirk and stop Dept. then went up
Stairs to [..] Partner said Thompson upon going up he met
the little [..] that he had left with the deced who desired
to be shown [..] down for that the Maid was killed
meaning as Dept. understood the deced that she appeared
very much frightened Dept desired her to stop and while
Dept. was speaking to her Thompson came to Dept. and
sayed the Woman is killed Dept. then went out upon
the Stage of the Mill and saw the deced layingagon
the Ground against a House adjoining the Mill wherein
the Foreman of the Mill resides That she appeared very
much hurt and insensible Dept immediately left the
Mill and went to alarm some Neighbours and soon after
the deced was placed upon a Shutter in order to be taken to
her Masters house Mr. Lovell of Battersea aforesaid
BarkersBrickmaker that Dept. has seen the deced this
Evening lying Dead at Saint Thoms's Hospital
