London Informations of Witnesses taken at the parish of
Saint Botolph without Billingsgate in the
Ward of Billingsgate in London aforesaid on the
8th. day of JuneMarch1791 on view of the Body of
Thomas Grocock< no role > now here lying dead.

John Boucher< no role > an Apprentice [..] Richard Joyce< no role > of No.5 Fountain< no role >
Court in the Minories London Box maker maketh Oath that about
a quarter Last nine o'Clock in the Night of Friday last Dept. the
deced whom Dept. has known about four Years & who was an
Apprentice to Mr Morgan of the Minories Hair dresser and
one Sumpter Johnson< no role > an Apprentice to Mr. Shepherd Shepherd< no role >
of the Minories Hair dresser [..] met at the corner of the little
Minories and agreed to go together to swin in the River Thames
that they accordingly went down to the Tower Whereof and from
thence into a Boat lying in the River Thames near the said Wharf
that they all pulled off their Cloaths-that at apt. got in to the
Water first as he could swim very well-that the deced
and Johnson soon followed after-that Johnson could swim
a little that the deced could not swim any-that the Water
was [..] shallow where they got out of the Boat that it was
about of a Last nine o'Clock at the time Johnson & the deced got
out of the Boat into the Water that Dept. continued about
a quarter of an hour swimming backwards and forwards-the
deced and Johnson continuing in the [..] water-that
Johnson having got out of his Dept in the water halloed
out for help-that Dept. went towards Johnson in order to help
him as did the deced-that [..] the deced had
got between Dept. and Johnson who was crying out for a Distance
& Dept. swam towards them that the deced appeared to be out
of his depth and the tide running drown very strong he soon
sunk under the water and Dept. saw no more of him-that
Johnson was about twenty feet from him at this time and soon after
Johnson by means of Dept. getting behind him and pushing his
feet against him got on Shore.
