Informations of Witnesses taken at the
parish of Saint John within the Borough of
Southwark in the County of Surrey on the 10th. day of
September 1788 on view of the Body of George
Bowen then and there lying dead .

James Palmer< no role > of Wine Yard Tooley Street Parish of
Saint John Southwark maketh Oath and Saith that he is
a Drudger and Fisherman that about the hour of these in the
Afternoon of Monday last Dept. was Grappling [..] at
the Stem of the Boro Adventure a Merchant Vessel then
lying off or near Horsley down Old Stairs the Grappled
something under the Water and on drawing hid Grappling,
up to the Surface of the Water the found it to be a drowned
Man that he lowed the body of deced ashore to Horsley
down New StairsThat [..] after he had
lamed the Body at the Stairs he went on board of said
Vessel and informed some of the people belonging to the
said Vessel that he had picked a Drowned Man [..] he
heaving been informed that a Man whose Name was
Geor. Bowen had been Missing form said VesselThat
the Mate and a Boy belonging to said Vessel went to
with Dept. to the spot where deced lay and found it to
be the said George Bowen< no role > who had been Missing from
said VesselThat the said Mate and Boy Conveyed the Body
on board the said Vessel.
