Presidents treasurers and governors of these and of
the other Royal Hospitals Addressed to the Right
Honourable Edward Lord Thurlow Lord High Chancellor
of Great Britain Visitor of the Hospitals of Saint
Bartholomew and Bethlem of the Foundation of
King Henry the 8th . and of Christs Bridewell & Saint
Thomas the Apostle of the Foundation of King Edward
the Sixth in the words and figures following Vizt.

Petition of The Presidents
treasurers and governors

Bethlem Christs Bridewell
and Saint Thomas's to
The Lord Chancellor


The humble Petition of the Presidents treasurers
and governors of the said Hospitals respectively Assembled
at Courts held for the said Hospitals respectively that
is to say for Saint Bartholomews Hospital on the 24th.
day of November 1779 at Christs Hospital on the 26th.
day of the same November at Bridewell Hospital on the
25th. day of same November and at Saint Thomas's
Hospital on the 3d. day of December next Pursuant to
Orders of the said Courts respectively then made and
OrdainedShewethThat be Grant or Letters
Patent dated 13th. January 38 King Henry the 8 the
same King Granted to the Mayor and Commonally and
Citizens of the City of London (in Pursuance of an Indenture
bearing date the 27th. day of December Preceding such
Letters Satent made between his said Majesty King
Henry the 8th. and the said Mayor and Commonally and
Citizens) among other things All the late Hospital of Saint
Bartholomew , in West Smithfield next London to be a
place and House for the Poor there to be ordained and to
be called the House of the Poor in West Smithfield next
London of the Foundation of King Henry the 8th. and
diverse Manors Messuages Lands Tenements & Hereditaments
in the City of London and in the Countys of Middlesex
Essex, Bucks, Northampton , Somerset, Oxford, and Hertford
therein particularly mentioned with such Powers as are
