Thomas Calverly< no role > Esqr . Peter Esdaile< no role > Esqr . and The Revd. Dr .
Anthony Hamilton< no role > as governors of these Hospitals.

House Committee
Report as to the Acorn Alehouse

At this Court a Report from the House Committee
bearing date the 30th. of July Instant under the Hands of
Nathaniel Thomas< no role > Esqr . Aldn . treasurer Henry Cranks< no role > Esqr .
Auditor General William James< no role > Esqr . and Samuel Read< no role > Esqr .
was read as follows Vizt. Jno. Pursuance of an Order of
Court of the 11th. of July Instant whereby it was referred to
this Committee to reconsider the Answer given by them to the
request made by the Committee of City Lands to the General
Court in the 26th. day of June last This Committee on the
25th. of July Instant sent for and proceeded to Treat with
John Cox< no role > Esqr . in respect to his relinguishing his Agreement
for a Lease of the Acorn Alehouse and continuing as
Tenant at Will for the same when the said Mr. Cox desired
time to consider of the said proposal till this Day and
the Committee having this Day again met to hear his
Determination Mr. Cox instead of Personally Attending
sent them a Letter in the Words and figures following Vizt.
"To the Worshipful the treasurer and Committee of
Bridewell Hospital Gentlemen. It not being in my power
to wait upon ye. take the Liberty to Acquaint ye that I am
well satisfied to continue in the situation I am now in with
the Committee being well Assured that nothing can or will
Injure me in quietly holding the Premises except an Act of
Parliament and in that Case I shall be circumstanced as
many other Persons will be I trust, Gentlemen that when
the Report of the Transaction with me is made to a General
Court that the Court will not only Approve but Applaud
the Conduct of the Committee the House in Question before it
was Let to me went at £20 P Annum Subject to Land
Tax which brought the Rent to £17.. P Annum and a large
