an Artsmaster


At this Court the Humble Petition of Joseph Sharpe< no role > Citizen and
Needlemaker was Read as follows "That Your Petitioners late Father
"Sutton Sharpe< no role > was an Artsmaster of this Hospital upwards of 28 Years
"That for some Years past Occasioned by Illness he was Obliged to resid
"mostly in the County That Your Petitioner Managed his Business in
"the Hospital and in Partnership with him for Seven Years Past
"Therefore Humbly Prays to be Admitted one of YOur Artsmasters in
" the Room of his said Father and is willg. to take such a Number of
"Apprentices as the Courts hall Order and to keep his Appartment in
"Repair with Glazing Plaistering and Whitewashing at his own
"Expence as is Usually Done by the Artsmasters and to Comply with all
"Orders of the Court and Comittee made and to be made in Relation to
"Artsmasters "Whereupon this court Doth unanimously Elect the
the said Joseph Sharpe< no role > an Artsmaster of this Hospital And it is
Ordered that the said Joseph Sharpe< no role > (producing a Copy of his Freedom of
this City and Delivering a Certificate of his last Legal Settlement to the
Clerk) be Admitted an Artsmaster of this Hospital untill the Next
Election Day And to have Such Appartments as the Comittee of this House
shall think proper Upon Giving Security as has been Usually done in
the like CasesAnd that the Journey men which he Shall Employ in
his Trade Shall be such as have Served their Apprentiship in this Hospital

Upon Reading a Memorial under the Hands of James Kettilby< no role >
Richard Stratton< no role > Francis Baker< no role > William Bishop< no role > Thomas Smith< no role > and
David Morris< no role > Comon Council of the Ward of Coleman Street on behalf of
themselves and the rest of the Inhabitants of the said Ward in the Words and
Figures following Vizt. That Your memorialist have Obtained a Grant of
part of the Citys Wall Extending Eastward from the place where Great Moor
Gate lately Stood 34 feet in Length in Order to Erect a Watch house for the Use
of the said Ward But find the same too Narrow and Inconvenient for that purpose
Your Memorialists therefore Pray Your Worships will be pleased to Grant
past of the Area Between Bethlem Hospital and the said Wall Extending
30 Feet in Length from West to east and in Depth about 9 Feet from North to
South in Such Method and form as this Worshipful Court shall think Proper
It is Ordered that the Consideration of the said Memorial be referred to the
Grand Committee of Bethlem Hospital and that they do Report their Opinion
thereon to this Court.
