Continued Friday 19th. March 1756

Vacancy of an Artsmaster in the
room of Corns. Maleir Expelld}


At this Court the Vacancy of an Artsmaster was declared in the Room
of Corns, Morleir< no role > Expelled which makes now 3 Vacancys, and Orderd
That the Election of 3 Artsmasters be at the next Court, And that Notice
thereof be incerted in the Sumon's.

Engine Weavers there being but
Lane in the House matter way be Candidate}


Upon Reading an Order of this Court the 30th. April 1740. That no Engine
Looms be set up in this Hospital without the Special leave of this Court And
there being but one Engine Weaver now in the Hospital It is Order'd That
another may be Admitted to be Candidate for one of the Appartments now Vacant

Mr. Richard Blunt< no role > as foll ViztThis Comittee finding 2 Vacancys of Artsmaster in the Room
of Mr. Thomas Keil< no role > who dyed 1st. Novr. 1754 & Mr. John Burnham< no role > who dyed 21st. Novr 1754 Consedan
Advertisment to be published Sevl. times in the Daily Aldvertiser & Gareteer from the 27th. of
Novr. to the 9th of Decr. last as followsThere being 2 Artsmaster Appartments Vacans
in Bridewell Hospital any Weavers of Good Charactor who are Inclineable to fill up the
places may give in their Names at the Clerks office (where they will have further
Information) any Morning before the 14th. of Decr. soon after which therewill be an
ElectionAnd Accordingly Several Weavers left their Names at the Clerks office
And Notice being given to them that the Comittee wou'd meet this day to consider
of the Sevl. Applications that had been made for Artsmasters places The following
Persons Attended & brought Samples of their Work. Vizt.

John Jackson< no role > Engine Weaver Great Bandyleg Walk Sonthwark

Henry Heaford< no role > Ribbon Weaver

these 2 Served their Apprenticeships
in this Hospital.

They all Professed themselves to be of the Church of England as by Law Established
And the Comittee upon the best Enquire they cou'd make have no reason to Object to
the Character of any of them or their Skill in their Trade, And it was with Great pleasure
the Comittee heard a very good Character of the Sobriety as well as Skill in their
business of the 2 Candidates who Served their Apprenticeships in their HospitalAnd
their were two other Attended this Comittee Vizt. Philip Jno. Morris< no role > Ribbon Weaver
grandson of the sd. John Burnham< no role > deced & Ambrose Marshall< no role > Fancy Weaver upon
London bridge There were also 3 other Weavers left their Names at the
Clerks office but did not attend the Comittee Vizt. Joseph Delaroach< no role > This name instance is in set 4053. Broad Weaver
in Crown Alley Moorfields Roger Coverly< no role > This name instance is in a workspace. Engine Weaver King street Moorfields &
John Wood< no role > Velvet weaver in Petticoate lane .

The Comittee find that since the said Advertisments were Published there
is a third Vacancy of an Artsmaster in the Room of Cornelints Morleir who was
Expelled by Order of Court 12th. of December last

And the Comittee find that at a Court 5th. Febry 1719 there being then Sevll.
Engine Weavers in the Hospital It was Orderd That no more Engine Looms shoud by
set up in this Hospital with out Leave of the Court.

And that at a Court the 6th. of June 1746 there being their but one Engine [..]
in the Hospital It was Ordered That another might be Admitted to be
a Canditate for one of the Appartments then VacantAll which is
Submitted to the Judgment of the CourtThis Court haveing duly weighed and
Consider'd the Report Doth Confirm the same

Repairs to be Considerd.}


Order'd That it be referr'd to the Comittee of this House to Enquire, into the State
of the reputes of the Court room Hall & report their Opinion thereon to the Court.
