Report from Comee of the
duty of the Minister and
Reader}


Upon reading a Report from the Comittee of this Housebearing date
the 9th. day of April 1745 under the hands of Edward Holloway< no role > Esquire Treasurer
Dr . Richard Rawlinson< no role > Mr. William Hunt< no role > Mr. Thomas Morris< no role > Mr. Edward Dod< no role >
and Mr. John Lee< no role > as follows In pursuance of an Order of last Court this
Comee have examined the books in relation to the duty of the Minister and
Reader of this Hospital and what their Salarys are and how they have been
Augmented and find the following Orders vizt.

Mr: Samuel Masters< no role > was Elected Minister and preacher of the Hospital and
precinctto preach twice every Sunday and to perform other dutys incident
to the Ministers Place

NB The Salary was then £80. 3. 4 P Ann
Ordered a Gratuity of £20 to Mr. Masters the Minister and preacher during the
pleasure of the Courts for Visiting and istructing such poor Lanebiks on
Bethlem as are fit to receive any benefit therebyand for Catechizing the
Apprentices in the Hospital of Bridewell and expounding the name to them every
Sunday Evening

At this Court Dr. Atterbury was Elected Minister and preacher and was ordered
to enter upon the dutys and Services incident thereto

The Comee reported they had examined into the Salary of the Reader and found the some
to be £30 P Annum for reading prayers on Sundays and but of parliament Holly days
and keeping School every day for the Apprentices and are of Opinion Prayers should be read by
the Reader every Saint day and evey Wednesday and Friday and that an Addition of £20
should be made to her Salary for the samewhich was confirmed by the Court

The Comee reported that the Readers duty used to read prayers twice every Sunday
and once on Wednesday Fridays and Holly days and to Colonize the Boys in Load time
and as Schoolmaster to leach the Apprentices to write an hour every Houses in their
Termsand that the duty of Visiting the Sick and of Christlenings and Burials are
dutys belonging to the office of Minister of this HospitalThis Report was confirmed
by the Court.

It is the Opinion of the Comee that if any Apprentice in this Hospital has not
been baptized it is the duty of the Reader and Schoolmaster of the Hospital to [..]
been in the Principalls of Reagion so as to be fit to be baptized

Upon asumming into the matter this Comee is of Opinion that it is the duty of Elected
in this Hospital to go with the Chappel Wardens upon all Collections to make upon
the Kings Letter or Briefs.

And it is Ordered that this be reported to the next Court

as followsAt this Comee the petition of Messrs Felix < no role > and Peter Calicot< no role > and Mr
Seward Partners and Brewery which was referred to this Comee by order of Court the
Tenth of April last was read where by they propose to take a Lease with usual Govr
for 7th or 14 Year to comence from Michaelmas next of the Vaults or Collars under
the East End of the old Building of Bethlem Hospital late in the Occupation of
Thomas Walker< no role > and to pay the Yearly Rent of £35 by quarterly Payments at the
Hospital of Bridewell London and to execute a Counterpart of such Lease
