to conferr with the President
of Christs. Hospl. as to
employing the Shoemaker
of this Hospl.}


Upon reading a Report from the Comittee of this House bearing date the 23d
instant under the hands of Edward Holloway< no role > Esqr . Trear , Walter Pryse< no role > Esqr . Dr.
Richard Rawlinson< no role > Mr. Robert Henshaw< no role > , Mr. Gilbert Malcher< no role > , Mr. Dept. Farington
Mr. Thomas Morris< no role > , Mr. Samuel Bridgman< no role > & Mr. Deputy Ballard as follows Vizt.
The several proceedings of former Comittees in applying to the Govrs. of Christs
Hospital to employ the Shoemaker & Tailor in this Hospital were laid before
this Comittee and read as follows Vizt.

Mr. Pryse having been desired to apply to the Comee of Christ Hospital to have
whether they will be intended to employ the Shoemaker of this Hospital to make the
Shoes for their Children reported to the Comittee the 15th. of April 1742. that he
had obtained from their officer Samples of their Shoes which were seat to this
Hospital & the Shoemaker here declared he could serve Christs Hospital as well
as cheap as they can be accomodated at Northampton Therefore he was Ordered
to make a Sample from each Pattern to be laid before the next Comittee
Mr. Pryse was also desired to inform himself whether the Tailors in this Hospital
may be employed by Christs Hospitall in making the Cloathing for the Children
there and report the same to the Comittee

At a Comee the 19th: of May last they desired Mr. Dod who is one of the Al [..]
at Christs Hospital to inform the Comit there at their next meeting that the
Shoemaker of this Hospital has made a Sample of each Size of their Shoes and is
of Opinion that the Shoes by him made are of equal goodness or better than the
Patterns sent & declares he can afford to sell any quantity of Shoes for the use of
the Children of Christs Hospital as cheap as they are bought at Northampton
Therefore this Comee hope the Comee at Christs Hospital will give leave to the
said Artsmaster to lay before them the Samples to has made if they are as good
and as cheap as at Northampton this Comee hope that the Comee at Christs
Hospital to encourage their fellow Citizens as well as to promote the Charity of
Bridewell will purchase the Shoes for the Children of their Charity at the
Hospital of Bridewell

And at a Comee the 27th. of May last They desired Mr. Trear to conferr with
the Trear of Christs Hospital and endeavour to forward the request that had
been made by Mr. Pryse to employ the Shoemaker in this Hospital in making
Shoes for the Children of Christs Hospital if he will make 'em as Cheap and as
good as they are now doneAnd this Comittee finding their Applications
of no effect yet think it their duty to inform the Court thereof for their
Judgment how and in what manner the same may be obtained And it is
Ordered that this be accordingly reported to the next CourtThis Court
having duly weighed & considered the said Report Doth desire The Right
Honble The Lord Mayor President of these Hospitals to conferr with the
President of Christs Hospital and endeavour by that or such other Method
he shall think most convenient to engage the Governors of that Hospital to
employ the Artsmasters in this Hospital to make Shoes and Clothes for the
Children and Servants of Christs Hospital if it can be done as well and as
cheap as they are now done at Northampton and elsewhere the doing a [..] of
will be of great service as well to the Citizens of London in General as to
the Charity of this Hospital in particular.

Resignation of Mr Cooke}


This Court declared the Vacancy of an Artsmaster of this Hospital in the
room of Mr. William Cooke< no role > who has resigned.

Accounts to Xmas last
Mr. President reported the
Ballance of them}


The Right Honble The Lord Mayor President of these Hospitall reported to
this Court the Ballance of the Accounts of these Hospitalls to Christmas last
which were audited the 18th. of March instant the Ballance of Bridewell
being £7403..6..7½ & Bethlem & the Incurables £19746..14..8¾.

Fees. of Prisoners Referred to Comee to
consider thereof}


Ordered that it be referred to the Comee of this House to consider of what
Equivalent shall be given to the officers & Servants in lien of Fees and to
report the same to the Court.

At this Court William Hinley< no role > a poor boy [..] and at the Nomination of
John Tayler< no role > Esqr . was ordered to be put out Apprentice .
