Govrs reced their Charge


At this Court the Charge was read to Mr. Francis Harling< no role > & Thomas
Sergesson
< no role > Esqr . as Governors of these Hospitals

discharged of £35 for yrs Rent
due Laddy 1737}

Upon reading the humble Petition of John Baker< no role > of the Parish of Sr. Leonard Shoreditch
Carpenter settingforthThat in May 1736 he proposed to take a Lease or
Leases of 11 Houses in Old Bethlem and Ground whereon the same were
built and the Yards thereto belonging from Laday 1736 for 61 Years at £35.
P ann Rent clear of Taxes and to pay a Fine of £150. and to rebuild thereon
seven Houses according to the second date of Building on Londonwhich
proposals were accepted by the Governorsand three several Leases
thereof have been accordingly granted to the Petr. and be paid the said Fine
of £150. for the sameThat the Petr. appretending it was usual in all
Building Leases from the Governors to their Tenants to allow the first year to
build in, at a Pepper Corn Rent, omitted to make mention thereof in his proposals
And a Demand has been made upon him of £35. for the first years Rent
to Laday 1737And praying the Governors to take this matter into Consideration
& to remitt to the Petr. the said Rent due for the first year ending at Laday 1732
It is Ordered that the said John Baker< no role > be discharged of the said Rent [..] for the 1st year
ending at Laday 1737

Beadles Gratuity Midr 1737


Upon reading the humble Petition of the four Beadles and Porterman of this
Hospital for their usual Gratutitys of Forty Shillings a peice in respect of the
half year ending at Midsummer last for that their Salarys are but small
It is ordered that the Clerk of these Hospitals do give and pay unto them
Forty shillings a peice to be allowed him in his next Account.

Upon reading the humble Petition of the three Beadles or Basketlmen of [..]
Hospital of Bethlem for their usual Gratuitys of Twenty Shillings a piece
in respect of the half year ending at Midsumer last for that their Salarys [..]
but small It is Ordered that the Clerk of these Hospitals do give and pay unto
them Twenty Shillings a peice to be allowed him in his next Account.

Upon reading the humble Petition of Joseph Wither< no role > Citizen & Tallow Chandler of
London SettingforthThat he has been a freeman of this City for twenty years
past and a Livery man of his CompanyThat he is desirous to be made an
Artsmaster in this Hospital and is willing to take as many Apprentices as the
Court shall think fit and to comply with all the orders made or to be made in
relation to Artsmasters & there being now a Vacancy in the said Hospital
occasioned by the death of James Walde< no role > the Hempdresser and praying
the Govrs. to elect him Hempdresser & one of the Artsmasters of the said Hospital
to fill up the said VacancyAnd the Question being put that the said
Joseph Withers< no role > be Elected an Artsmaster of this Hospital He was Remine
[..] Contradicente Elected an Artsmaster till the next Election dayAnd It
is ordered that the said Joseph Withers< no role > be admitted accordingly upon his
delivering a Certificate of his Settlement to the Clerk & producing a Copy of his
freedom of this City & giving such Security as is usual in the like Cases
And that the Journeymen which he shall employ in his said Trade shall be
such as have served their apprenticeships in this HospitalAnd it is
further ordered that he have such Apartment in this Hospital as the Comittee
of this House shall direct.
