Upon reading a Report from the Comittee of this House under these
hands of John Tayler< no role > Esqr. Treasurer Mr. Thomas Nicoll< no role > . Mr. Charles Gretton< no role > , Mr.
Robert Witham< no role > . Mr Thomas Parry< no role > , John Martyn< no role > Esqr and Mr Robert Bishop< no role >
bearing date the 27th. day of March instant in the words following Vizt.
Permant to an Order of Court of the 26th. day of October last This Comittee have
Considered of the Vacancy of a Hempdresser in this Hospital and having Searched
the Books They find that by an Order of Court of the 5th. July 1628 the
Hempdressers were to have all the Prisoners (part of whom had before that time
been used to have been Imploy'd in other work) and to allow for a mans Labour
4d. and for Women and Boys each 2d. P dayAnd by an Order of Court
7th. May 1647. The Diet of the Prisoners was raised from 2d to 2d ½ P Meal
And 7th November 1712 the same was by another Order of Court raised
to 3d. P MealBut the Comittee Observe that altho the price of Labour
has of late years increas'd as well as the price fo Victuals and Drink yet since the
Year 1628. which is now very near one hundred years no Augmentation has been
made of the Allowance from the Hempdressers for the Labour of the Prisoners
which the Comittee are Opinion ought to bear some proportion to this Charge of
their Diet (that is to Say) The Hempdressers ought to allow for the Labour of
every man 6d. And for every woman Boy of Girl 3d. P DiconThe Comittee
having Discours'd Mr Walde the only Hempdresser now in the House He Says he
cannot make any greater Allowance for the prisoners Labour than 4d. a day for a
man and 2d. for a Woman, Boy or Girl, as usual And he refuses to Employ two
of the late Hempdressers Apprentices who are now Idle in the Hospital And at
the same time he Imploys several JourneymenIt is Ordered that
it be referred back to the Comee of this House to receive proposals from other
Hempdressers and that they Cause the Vacancy of a Hempdresser in this Hospital
to be advertized.

Discharg'd the Hospital}


This Court being of Opinion that the Hempdressers Allowance for
the Prisoners Labour is too Small A Motion was made and the Question being
putIt was Resolv'd that James Walde< no role > Hempdresser shou'd be
Discharg'd this Hospital if he refused to raise the price of the Prisoners Later
from 4d. & 2d. a day to 6d. & 3d.And the said James Walde< no role > being
Call'd into Court refused to raise the sameIt is Ordered that he
be Discharg'd this Hospital and that he Quit his Appartment by Michas next

of Benjamin Crakenthorp< no role > (the late Hempdresser 's) two Apprentices

& quitted his appartmt.}
Mr Treasurer acquainted the Court that George Hooker< no role > Weaver had
Resign'd his place of Artsmaster and had Quitted the Appartment which he had
in the Hospital
