Convicts-Comee to
inspect ye Charter & Rept.
their Opinion about Convicts
being Sent hither}


Order'd that the Comee who were appointed to draw up
the Answer to the Lord Dartmouths Letter to the Governors of this
Hospital relateing to the Convict Prisoners be desired to inspect the
Charter of this Hospital and to report to this Court their Opinion
upon the Subject matter of Convicts being sent to this hospital

Upon reading the humble Petition of Elizabeth Mitton< no role > Matron
of this hospital Setting forth That haveing Served this hospital almost
Seven yeares Doth with all Submission humbly recomend to the Governor s
these consideracons vizt.The vast trouble She hath all along has
with the Convicted Prisonrs: in visiting takeing care of and assisting them
in all extremities which care her predecessors never knewAnd
likewise the Rise and dearness of all Sorts of provision & Clothing

The Smallnesse of her Salary the house allowing no more
than £27.. a year to maintain her and a Servant which the businesse
of her place requires And Whereas for the first 3 yeares She
was assisted by perquisites ariseing from accidental prisoners which
amounted to Three or four pounds a quarter It has so happened
that for Two or three yeares last past those profitts have such to Ten
or Twelve Shillings a quarter which renders her unable to Subsist &
has brought her into some inconveniencys which oblige her to Crase ye
favour of ye house and that they will be pleased to grant her a
gratuityThe Several questions were put That the sd Petition
be referred to the Comee of this house-Or that the Court now proceed
to take the same into Consideracon& it was carried for the latter

Then the said Mrs. Mitton was called in and heard but She
not being fully prepared to make out all the Allegations of her Petition

It is Order'd That the consideracon thereof be Referred to the
Comee of this house who are desired to Search whether there be any
presidents of the like nature in the Books of this hospital And to Report
to this Court what they think proper to be done therein

Upon reading ye humble Petition of Humfry Ambler< no role > gent Setting forth That ye
Governor . haveing in ye life time of Cha Bream< no role > ye Petrs fathers in Law since deced
agreed to grant him a new Lease of a Wharfe Messenger & Tenemts. in Bridewell
present the sd. Charles Bream< no role > did by his last will and Testamt. in writeing
give to his wife an Annuity dureing her life and (amongst other things)
charged ye premises wth the paymt thereof And gave ye sd premes after the death of his sd.
wife to the Petrs Daugher for ye remainder of ye Terme that by ye sd agreement
Should be then to come therein & made the Petr. his Residuary Legatee & Sole Executor who hath
since proved ye sd Willm ye Ferogative Court of Canterbury But ye sd Lease not being yet
Sealed ye Petr prayed the same might be made in his name the better to enable him to pform
ye sd will & discharge ye Trust thereby reposed in him It is Ordered That ye Lease
of ye sd premisses which was directed by this Court to be made to ye sd Charles Bream< no role > were
made to ye sd humphry Ambler< no role > he executing a Counterpart thereof
