It is ordered by this Court that John Wells< no role > who
served his apprentiship with John Bennet< no role > Shoemaker One
of the Artsmasters of this Hospitall be made free of this
Citty.

Hempdressers to attend wth Coat a Complaint
that the Prisoners get
drunk Etc

Complaint being made to this Court that the Hempdressers
or their Servants sufferr the Prisoners in this Hospitall
to gett drunk & refuse to lett any body see a Prisoner
without Strong drink or money It is ordered that
James Waldo< no role > & Benjamin Crackenthorpe< no role > the two Hempdressers
in this Hospitall & their Servants who look after the
Prisoners do attend the next Court to Answer the said
Complaint.

dated the Eighteenth day of August last in these words Vizt
This Comee in pursuance of an Order of Court of the 31th. day of
July last haveing Considered of the Lettr of ran the Lord Dartmouth out
of her Majesty to principal Secretaryes of State to the Governor of this
Hospital and an Answr being drawn up according to the directions of
this Comee in order to be sent to the Lord Bolingbroke who Succeeds the
Lord Dartmouth in his Office Vizt

My Lord

My Lord Dartmouth was pleased by his Lettr of the 22d of
July last to Signifye to the Governors of Bridewell Hospital that the
Queen had been informed they refused to receive Criminals into that
Hospital and his Lordship desired to know what reasons had induced
them to alter a Custome so long established that his Lordshipp might
lay the same before her Majesty

The Governors humbly Apprhend by Criminals his Lordshipp
intends only such as have been Convicted of Felonyes and in pursuance
of an Act made in the fifth yeare of her Majestyes Reigne Should
have been Comitted to some house of Correction or publick Workhouse
within this Citty as part of their punishment and such Criminals
the Governos have alwayes objected against and sometimes refused
to receive into this Hospital for that they humbly Conceive and are
advised this is not the proper place for the Reception of them
