for an allowance for ye

Upon reading the humble Petition of Thomas Bayly< no role > Steward
of ye sd hospital of Bridewell Setting forth That by an order
of Court of ye 7th day of May 1647 It was ordered That ye stewd
Should be allowed after ye rate of five pence P diem for ye Dyet of
every prisonr kept in ye hospital a whole day and night together
& that he should provide and deliver for every Such prisonr. on
Sundayes Mundayes Tuesdays and Thursdays at Dunners the
third part of a pound of boiled beef without bones a quart of
pottage halfe a three halfe penny leaf and a quart of four
Shilling been and at Supper on every of ye same dayes ye like
weight of Beef a quarter of a three halfe penny lease and a pint
of four Shillings been And on Wednesdayes frydayes & Saturdays
at Dunner ye Sixth part of a pound of butter or ye fourth part
of a pound of Cheese with a quart of Milk pottage and ye like
quantity of bread and Beer as before at Dinner & at Supper
one very of those three dayes a quarters of a three halfe penny loafe
and a pint of four Shillings beer as had been antcently allowed
That ye Petr. hes been Stewd. of ye sd hospital for five yeares
& upwards & has all along Supplyed ye Prisonr with ye full
quantity of provisions according to ye said Order at five pence
P diem but for ye Greatest part of ye sd time provisions have
been much dearer than they formerly were particularly ye
Beef which used to be bought for one penny and three halfe
pence pound Stands ye Petr in two pence & three pence and
the Small Been which at ye time of making ye sd Order and for
many yeares afterwards was at four Shillings P Barrell has
for ye most part of Cost the Petr Seven shillings & Six Pence
So that ye Petr. has been a great losser by ye Dyett at ye price
aforesd. which was a benefitt to ye Steward at ye time of making ye said
order & as he humbly conceives was so intended to be by ye Governors
And praying such a Consideracon for his losse for ye time past and
Such an allowance for ye future as to ye Court Shall Seem meet
It is Ordered That ye Consideracon of ye sd. petition be
referred to ye Comee of this house who are desired to report
to this Court what they think proper to be done therein
