Samuel Cole proceedingsdefend , of St. Martins in the Fields , was indicted for breaking the dwelling House of Elizabeth Gumly proceedingsvictim , in the night time, and stealing thence 9 Silver Forks value 4 l.2 Silver Candlesticks value 6 l. and several other pieces of Plate, to a considerable value , the 4th of August last. Jonathan Wild < no role > This name instance is in set 30330. , deposed that application being made to him on behalf of the Prosecutor to discover the Thieves, whereupon he made enquiry and was inform'd that the Prisoner sold a parcel of Plate, to one Elizabeth Burton < no role > , another Evidence deposed that she was present when the Prisoner did sell a parcel of Plate wherein was a pair of Silver Candlesticks to the said Elizabeth Burton < no role > , another deposed that the Prisoner being apprehended and in Newgate did confess that he having been in Newgate where he lay for his Fees, coming acquainted with the said Elizabeth Burton, she being there at that time, being inform'd that he had formerly liv'd with very good Families did perswade him that when he came out he should make a jump at once i.e. to rob some of those Masters he had formerly liv'd with, and gave him half a crown to buy a mer to beat the Plate to pieces with, that it might be in a small compass, that when he came out he took her advice, he did get over the Wall by the help of a rope, afterwards broke into the Pantry Window and stole the Plate, and sold part of it to Elizabeth Burton, for 13 l. However he deny'd it all upon his Tryal, but that did not avail him, the Jury found him guilty of the Indictment. Death .
