THE ORDINARY of NEWGATE, His ACCOUNT of the Behaviour, Confession, &c.

AT the King's Commission of the Peace, Oyer and Terminer, and Goal Delivery of Newgate, held before the Right Honourable Sir ROBERT WESTLEY< no role > , Knt. Lord-Mayor of the City of London, the Right Honourable Lord Chief Justice LEE, the Honourable Mr. Baron REYNOLDS, Sir SIMON URLIN< no role > , Knt. Recorder of the City, and others of his Majesty's Justices of Oyer and Terminer for the City of London, and Justices of Goal Delivery of Newgate, holden for the said City and County of Middlesex at Justice-Hall in the Old-Bailey, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the 17th , 18th , and 19th of October, 1744 , and in the Eighteenth Year of his Majesty's Reign.

FOUR Men, viz. Samuel Ellard< no role > , Richard Lee< no role > , alias Country Dick, Francis Moulcer< no role > , and Peter Velgent< no role > ; and Three Women, viz. Ann Gwyn< no role > This name instance is in set 4427. , Ann Wells< no role > , alias Barefoot< no role > This name instance is in set 3829. , and Ann Duck< no role > This name instance is in set 3827. , were by the Jury convicted of capital Offences, and received Sentence of Death.

WHILE under Sentence, they were instructed in their Duty, from the Words of our Saviour, speaking of the Woman who was a most wicked Sinner, who brought an Alabaster Box of Ointment, and anointed his Feet, and washed them with her Tears, Luke vii. v. 47. Wherefore I say unto you, her Sins which are many are forgiven, for she loved much; but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. A Parallel was made between their Case, and that of this Woman's in the Gospel; and they were informed, that our Blessed Father, thro' the Intercession of his Son Jesus Christ, is ever willing and ready to ex
