Juce of Princes Street near Little Queen
Street Sawyer , taken before me this
24th. August 1749.

Giles Parsons< no role > being upon Oath says, that he was present
[..] about Eleven of the Clock this Morning
when William Burford< no role > was Sharping his saw in [..] the Yard
of Mr. Juce in Princes Street in the Parish of St. Giles's in
the Fields , Says that a Person now present who calls himself
Samuel Cross< no role > This name instance is in set 3561. went up to the said Wm. Burford< no role > and pull'd and
Hawl'd him about and would not let him alone, upon which
she said [..] Samuel Cross< no role > forced the said Saw out of
the said Wm. Burfords hands and told him he should not
Sharps anymore and at that time Challenged the said
Wm. Burford< no role > [..] to fight, Upon which they went into the Street
and fought together for sometime [..] Says that [..] he saw the
said Samll. Cross Knock the said Wm. Burford< no role > down by
means of which he pitched his head upon a Stone and said
he would fight no more, Says that there was a Wound upon his head
and a Swelling under his Ear.

John Thomas< no role > Juce [..] being upon Oath says, that he was
present this Morning when a Man now present who calls himself
Samuel Cross< no role > was Shipp'd into his Shirt in order to fight with
one Wm. Burford< no role > , Upon which this Informt. told them he wod.
have no fighting there, and ordered them to go into the Street,
Says that he afterwards saw them fight in the Street, Upon
which the said Wm. Burford< no role > soon afterwards Dyed.

Richard Jones< no role > of Eagle Street Red Lyon Square Sawyer
being upon Oath says that he was present this Morning when
a Person now present who calls himself Samuel Cross< no role > came into
the Yard where this Informt. was at work, and asked one Wm.
Burford if he was not a Scoundrell and a Rogue to leave the
Yard where he was at Work, Says that he afterwards went
down the Yard calling the said Wm. Burford some bad Names
and at last threw at him with great force a Pegg of a Cart, to
which this Informt. told him if he had hit him with it, heard-
have Knocked his Brains out to which he replyed and Said
Damn him I did not Care if I hadhad,if it was not for the
Law I would stick my Knife into him, Saysthatupon that
