Examination TextMary Brown aged 21 Years removed from the Parish of Barking in the County of Essex upon her Oath saith that she was never Married nor bound Apprentice , that she was a Yearly hired Servant with Mr Benjamin Capper at the Hungerford Coffee house, Strand in the Parish of Saint Martin in the ffields within the Liberty of Westminster for the space of Two Years under one hiring at the Yearly Wages of Three Pounds Ten Shillings quitted the same the 20th Day of November 1788 since which she hath not been a Yearly hired Seven in any one place for Twelve Months together not done any Act to acquire a subsequent Settlement. And this Examinant upon her voluntary Oath Father saith that she is no great with Child or are Children which is or are likely to be born a Bastard or Bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of Saint Martin in the Fields and that Francis Stafford who lives Gardener with Mr Wm Gurney at the Boarding School in Cheshunt into County of Herts and several Times cannot Knowledge of her Body and that one of which Times did beget her with the Child or Children she now goeth with & is Pregnant of and that he the said ffrancis Sheppard is the true and only Father thereof and no Man else.sworn this 14th Day of December 1790 before me Wm Hyde Mary Brown her Mark
