Examination Text | The Examination of Atwood Martin lodging at No.33 in Rupert Street in the Parish of St James within the Liberty of Westmr. taken this 12th Day of May in the year 1778. This Examinant on his Oath saith that he is 46 years of age that he is a Peruke maker by trade, and learned the same of his father, That he never was bound an Apprentice kept house rented a tenement of ten pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for twelve months together, That his father Thomas Martin (who died about fifteen years ago) was bound an Apprentice by an Indenture for seven years to Mr. Hill a Peruke maker adjoining to st. James?s Palace in the parish of St Martin in the Fields and there served all the said time out as he this Examinant hath been Informed and verily believes to be true, That his father never kept house rented a tenement of ten pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for twelve months together since the Expiration of his said Apprenticeship to this Examinant?s knowledge, That he (this Examinant) was married to his present Wife Ann at the Parish Church of st. Anne within the Liberty of Westminster the fourteenth day of May in the year 1748 by whom he hath two children to wit Thomas aged 18 years bound an Apprentice and John aged eight years last January now with this Examinant.
