for the Month of Octr. last amountg- to the Sum of £4-13s-3d
At the same time read and Auditted the Accounts
of the Overseers for the same Month amountg- to £359-1s-2d
The Vestry this day took into consideration the great
Inconvenience arising to Persons ballotted to serve in the Militia
Notwithstanding their being Intitled to be reimbursed Half the
the Money they shall pay for a substitute, as the payment of the
other half is frequently not only Inconvenient but in some cases
distressing especially to persons having large Families, who from
their Inability to provide Substitutes may be Compelled to serve
personally.
The Artute of the Second Year of his present Majesty
relative to the Militia, enacts-That it shall not be lawfull for
any person or persons what soever (other than the Churchwardens &
Overseers of the Poor
, for certain purposes therein Mentioned) to
Contract or agree with any person or Persons for any Sum or Sums of
Money or any other Consideration or reward to Indemnify or
Insure him or them against [..] serving therein or for
providing Substitutes for those who may be Chosen to serve &
that if any person shall offend there in the offender shall
