An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King at the Dwelling House of Cockbourn Stewarts< no role > Sign of the Robin Hood in Charles Street parish of St. James
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the thirteenth day of August 1794 in the thirty fourth
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of
Great-Britain, France, and Ireland, King Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Anthony
Gell
< no role > , Esq. Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on
View of the Body of Henry Raban then and there lying dead, upon
the Oath of the Several Jurors whose Names are hereunder written and
Seals Affixed
good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said Henry Raban< no role > came to
h is Death, do upon their Oath say that the said Henry Raban not being of sound Mind
Memory and Understanding but lunatic and distracted on the eleventh day of August
in the year aforesaid at the Parish and in the Liberty aforesaid a certain Pistol
Chargedtangerwith Gun Powder, and a leaden Bullet which he the said Henry
Raban then and there had and held in gid right hand to and against the head
of him the said Henry Raban did then and there shoot off and discharge By
Means whereof he the said Henry Raban< no role > did then and there given unto himself
with the leaden Bullet aforesaid, so dicharged and shot out of the pistol
aforesaid, by the force of the Gun Powder aforesaid in and upon the head
of him the said Henry Raban one Mortal wound of the Breadth of half and
Inch and of the Depth of three Inches; Of which said Mortal Wound he
the said Henry Rabant< no role > then and there instantly did. And so the
Jurns aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said
Henry Raban in manner and by the means aforesaid, not being of
sound Mind Memory and Understanding but lunatic and distracted
did Kill himself. In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner
as the said Jurors have to this Inquisition set their hands and
Seals the day, Year and place first above-wirtten.
