An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King at the Dwelling House of Mrs. Grants in Knightsbridge Parish of St. George Hanover Square Sign of the white Horse
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the twelfth day of April 1793 in the thirty third
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of
Great-Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Anthony
Gell
< no role > , Esq . Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on
View of the Body of David Hunter< no role > then and there lying dead, upon
the Oath of the several Jurors whose Names are hereunto signed and
Seals affixed
good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly Sworn and charged to enquire of our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said David Hunter< no role > came to
h is Death, do upon their Oath say That the said David Hunter< no role > not being of sound Mind Memory
and Understanding but lunatic and distracted, on the Ninth day of April in the Year aforesaid
at the Parish and in the Liberty aforesaid To Wit, in Hyde Park a certain Pistol charged with
Gun powder, and a leader Bullet, which he the said David Hunter< no role > then and there had and
held in his night hand to and against the head of him the said David Hunter< no role > , did then
and there shoot off and discharge by means whereof be the said David Hunter< no role > did then and
there give unto himself with the leaden Bullet aforesaid, so discharged and shot out of the Pistol
aforesaid by the face of the Green powder aforesaid, in and upon the head of him the said David
Hunter one Mortal Wound of the Breadth of one Inch and of the depth of three Inches, Of which
said Mortal Wound, he the said David Hunter< no role > from the said Ninth day of April in the
year aforesaid untill the Eleventh day of the same Month in the same Year in the
Parish and in liberty aforesaid To Wit in St. George's Hospital did languish, and
languishing did live On which said Eleventh day of April in the Year aforesaid in the
Hospital aforesaid be the said David Hunter< no role > of the Mortal Wound aforesaid, did die And so
the Jurors aforesaid, upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said David Hunter< no role > , not being
of sound Mind, Memory & Understanding, but lunatic & distracted in manner and by the Means
aforesaid did kill himself. In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Jurors
have to this Inquisition set their hands & Seals the day Year & place first above written.
