An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King, at the Parish of Saint Ann
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Twenty Fourth day of October in the Twenty Ninth
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of
Great-Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas

< no role > , Gentleman, Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on
View of the Body of John Bate< no role > then and there lying dead, upon

chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said John Bate< no role > came to
h is Death, do upon their Oath say, That John Barker< no role > a Carman, on the
said Twenty Fourth day of October in the year aforesaid was
carefully driving a certain Cart loading with Coals and drawn by
Three Horses in Leicester Square in the said Parish of Saint Ann
within the Liberty and County aforesaid and that the said John Rate
was then riding upon the Sacks in the said Cart and being intoxicated
with Liqnor, It so happened that the said John Bate< no role > , Accidently
Casually and by Misfortune Fell down from the said Cart upon the
Stone Pavement in the said Square by Means whereof he the said
John Bate< no role > , did then and there receive Mortal Bruises in and upon his
Head of which said Mortal Bruises he the said John Bate< no role > then and
there instantly died And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath
aforesaid do say, that the said John Bate< no role > in Manner and by the Means
aforesaid Accidently Casually and by Misfortune came to his Death and
not otherwise.In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner
as the said Joseph Barber< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors on behalf
of himself and the rest of his Fellows in their Presence have to this
Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the Day Year and Place
abovementioned.
