Addicted to Drinking and was
sometimes Intoxiated with Liquor.

Richard Barkley< no role > a Smith . Lodger to
the Deced on his Oath saith, That about
Ten o'Clock on Thursday Night Dept.
came home and found Deced's Room
Door looked, That he called several times
& having no Answer he went to Mr. Nash
who about Eleven o'Clock came home
with him, and with her Key unlocked
the Door but could not go in there
being something against the Door Says that they
went down and Mr. Gough went up with them
but could not force open the Door. but
ordered somebody to fetch a Doctor
and Mrs. Nash and this Dept. went
and brought a Gentleman there who
went into the Room with Mr. Gough &
Dept. followed when he saw the Deced
lying upon the Floor with a Cord about
his Neck, which Mr. Gough said he
had cut, the Cord being Fast [..] d a Nail to the
top France of the Door, Says that the
Doctor said the Deced had been dead
three or four hours, and Dept. believes
that the Deced Hanged himself, Says
that the Deced on Thursday Morning
last when Dept. saw him appeared to
be low Spirited.

William Ellis< no role > . of Drury Lane Apothecary
on his Oath saith This Dept. on Thursday
Night last was desired to go to Deced
Says that he went and Saw Mr. Gough
at the Room Door which was unlocked
and Mr. Gough pushing the Door very
hard they both went in and others
followed, wh [..] he saw the Deced upon
the Floor with a Cord about his Neck
which Mr. Gough said he had out, Says
that he thinks the Deced had been dead
three or four hours, and that he was
Hanged.
