Informations taken this Sixth
day of January 1789 at the Parish
of St. Margaret within the Liberty
of Westmr. in the County of Midsex upon
an Inquisition touching the death
of George Mathews< no role > lying dead in
the said Parish Liberty and County

Walter Crop< no role > of Angel Court in the Parish of
St. Margaret Westmr. Taylor on his Oath saith
That George Mathews< no role > the Deced has Lodge about
six Weeks with Dept. That on [..] Sunday last
the Third Instant this Dept. Daughter Mary Ann
Cross
< no role > aged about Twelve Years went up Stairs to
make the Deced's Bed on the Second Floor and
immediately came down again saying that
she Saw a Man's Lag in the Carrier of the
Room upon which Dept. went up Stairs and
saw the Deced Hanging by a Cord fastened
to an Iron Staple in one of the Wooden
Joysts in the Certing of the Room and about
his Neck, Says that he fetched a Soldier who
lifted the Deced up which Dept. out the Cord
and Deced was laid down upon the Deced
being dead and quite Cold, and Dept.
believes that the Deced Hanged himself
Says that the Deced was a very quiet
[..] Fensive Man, but has of lote been much
addeted to Drinking and was in a low Way

William Clapp< no role > a Lodger at Mr. Cross's at Mr. Cross's in Angel
Court on his Oath saith, That he usually slept
with the Deced, That the Deced did not sleep
at [..] Saturday Night last but came hour
about Eight o'Clock on Sunday Morning and went
