An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King at the Parish of Saint Martin in the fields
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Eighth day of July in the Twenty Fourth
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of
Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas

View of the Body of Charles Linton< no role > then and there lying dead, upon

good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said Charles Linton< no role > came to
his Death, do upon their Oath say That a man to the Jurors aforesaid as yet
unknown not having the Fear of God before his Eyes but being moved and seduced by the Instigation
of the Devil on the said Eighth day of July in the Year aforesaid with Force and Arms at
the Parish aforesaid within the Liberty and County aforesaid in and upon the said Charles
Linton
< no role > in the Peace of God and of our said Lord the King then and there being feloniously wilfully
and of his Malice forethought did make an Assault, And that the said Man unknown with a
certain Knife made of Iron and Steel which he the said Man unknown then and there had and
held in his Right Hand him the said Charles Linton< no role > in and upon the Rightside of the Body
of him the said Charles Linton< no role > then and there did strike stab and Panetrate, And that the
said Man to the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown did then and there give unto him the said
Charles Linton< no role > in and upon he Right side of the Body of him the said Charles Linton< no role >
with the Knife aforesaid one mortal wound of the Length of one Inch and of the Depth
of three Inches, of which said mortal wound he the said Charles Linton< no role > then and
there died, And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say, that the said
man unknown him the said Charles Linton< no role > in Manner and by the Means aforesaid
feloniously wilfully and of his Malice fore thought did kill and murder agaisnt the Peace
of our said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity. And that the said Man unknown
after he had committed the Felony and Murder aforesaid, in Manner aforesaid withdraw
and fled for the same. In Witness where of as well the said Coroner as the said
Thomas Northam< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors, on the behalf of himself and the
rest of his Fellows, in their presence have to this Inquisition set their
Hands and Seals the Day Year and Place abovewritten
