An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King at the Parish of Saint James
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Seventh day of February in the twenty fourth
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of
Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas
Prickard
< no role > , Gentleman, Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on
View of the Body of Thomas Boyce< no role > then and there lying dead, upon
the Oath of Charles Lackington< no role > , Samuel Slyth< no role > , John Harman< no role > ,
Archibald Patterson< no role > , John Fitler< no role > , Harry Phillips< no role > George Atley< no role > ,
James Ashwell< no role > , Richard Davenport< no role > , Andrew Brotch< no role > ,
Thomas Adams< no role > , Thomas Hill< no role > and Harry Baker< no role >
good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said Thomas Boyce< no role > came to
h is Death, do upon their Oath say, That the said Thomas Boyce< no role > , not
being of sound Mind Memory and Understanding, but
lunatick and distracted, on the Fifth day of February in
the Year aforesaid, at the Parish and in the Liberty and
County aforesaid, a certain Pistol charged with Gunpowder
and a leaden Bullet which he the said Thomas Boyce< no role > then and
there had and held in his right Hand to and against the Head
of him the said Thomas Boyce< no role > did then and there shoot off and discharge
by Means whereof he the said Thomas Boyce< no role > did then and there give
unto himself with the leaden Bullet aforesaid so discharged and shot
out of the Pistol aforesaid by the force of the Gunpowder aforesaid in and upon
the right side of the Head of him the said Thomas Boyce< no role > one Mortal Wound of the
Breadth of one Inch and of the Depth of three Inches, of which said Mortal Wound he
the said Thomas Boyce< no role > at the said Parish Liberty and County languished until the
Sixth day of the same Month and Year, and thereof then and there did die. And so
the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said Thomas Boyce< no role > not
being of sound Mine Memory and Understanding but lunatick and distracted in manner
and by the Means aforesaid did kill himself In Witness whereof as well
the said Coroner as the said Charles Lackington< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors
on the behalf of himself and the rest of his Fellows, in their presence, have to
this Inquisition Set their Hands and Seals the Day Year and Place above written
