Informations taken this Twelfth day of
August 1783 at the Parish of St. George within
the Liberty of Westminster in the County of
Middlesex upon an Inquisition touching
the death of Richard Davey< no role > lying dead
in the said Parish Liberty and County.

Richard Anson< no role > of Oxford Street in the Parish of
St. George Hanover Square Cook on his Oath saith That
on Sunday, Night last, the Tenth instant about
Eleven o'Clock he sent his Boy for a Pint of Beer
to the Sign of the Swan a Publick House in Oxford
Street , and as he was going Dept. Saw John
Barnes
< no role > (as the thinks) who was standing with a
Woman in the Street, Kick his Boy, upon
which Dept. went towards Barnes calling the
Watch, Says that Barnes ran away towards
his Lodging, and Dept. overtook him, Says
that several of the Watchmen come there
and endeavoured to take Barnes to the
Watchhouse,whichThat he was unwilling
to go and said that they should not take him
there that a Scuffle ensued to that Barnes was soon [..] upon the Ground,
but Dept. did not observe how he came down
Says that one of the Watchman a Short Man
said I will Stab him but ill take him: to the Watch house and immediately put
him Hand under his Coat on the Right side
but Dept. did not see any Weapon, and said
to the Watchman for Gods sake do not stab.
him for if you cannot got him to the Watch house
without you had better let him go, Barnes
being there upon the Ground and several
of the Watchmen about him, and Barnes
said to Dept. You are an old Villain, Says
that he left them there and went home,
Says that he saw no Blow struck either
by Barnes or the Watchmen, Says that he
thinks the Watchman who said he would stab Barnes
was
