Informations taken this Twenty
Ninth day of December 1781 at the
Parish of St. Margaret within the
Liberty of Westmr . in the County of
Midsex upon an Inquisition touching
the death of Elizabeth Hatton< no role > lying
dead in the said Parish Liberty and
County.

John Burgess Gurney< no role > at the Sign of the Red Lyon
in Parliament Street in the Parish of St. Margt.
Westmr. Victualler on his Oath saith That
Elizabeth Hatton< no role > the Deced lived Servant [..]
with this Dept. about four Months last past
was a very Sober and honest Person, Says
that yesterday about four o'Clock in the Afternoon
Dept. went out leaving the Deced in his
House about her Business Says that he
returned home about [..] [..] o'Clock last
Night and soon Missed the Deced. That
on asking where she was Mrs. Gurney
answered that she was backward crying
as usual That a little after Mrs. Gurney
went to the Kitchen backwards and calling
the Deced and having no answer was
afraid that something was a [..] , upon
which Dept. went to the Kitchen Door which
he found Locked and the Key in the Lock on the
inside of the Door, that he endeavoured to
open the Door and that some Person with a
Poker forced it open, upon which he went
into the Kitchen and saw the Deced hanging
by a Silk Handkerchief, which was tied to
the bottom barr of the Jack there and about
her Neck, Says that with his Knife he cut
