Informations taken this Seventh
day of May 1779 at the Parish of St. James
with in the Liberty of Westmr. in the County
of Midsex upon an Inquisition touching the
death of Thomas Empson< no role > lying dead in the
said Parish Liberty and County.

Charles Stuart< no role > of Cross Street in the Parish of
St. James Westmr. Taylor on his Oath saith, That
Francis Addy< no role > a Shoemaker Lodges in Dept.
House and keeps the Shop there Says that he
had been out to day on Business and returned
home about Eleven o'Clock Says that he knocked
at his House Door which was opened by his
Maid Servant, who told Dept. that Mr. Addy's
Boy was Hanging in the Shop, Says that he
looked into the Shop and saw Thomas Empson< no role >
the Deced, (who was Apprence of Mr. Addy)
Hanging by a Leather Strap which was
fastened either to a Wooden Rail or a Wooden
Last behind the Rail, Says that he ran
cross the Street and desired a Cobler to
come over immediatly saying that Mr. Addy
Boy had Hanged himself, Says that he this
Dept. returned immediately and with his
Knife out the [..] shop by which the Deced was
Hanging, and Deced dropped down, Says
that Mr Watkins a Neighbour came in, and
supported the Deced whilet Deced fetched a
Person to Bled him but Deced is not Bleed
and the Surgeon said he believed it was too late
Says that the Deced was then dead, but not Cold
Says that the Deced has lived with Mr. Addy
in Dept. House about three Quarters of a Years
and that he did [..] Mr. Addy ever
beat him during that time, and Dept. believe
that the Deced Hanged himself, the Shop Door
not being fastened when Dept. returned from the
Cobler to cut the Deced down
