An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King, atthe Parish of Saint James
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster,
in the County of Middlesex, theEighth day of September in theFourteenthYear
of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain,
France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Prickard< no role > , Gentleman ,
Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on View of the Body of
William Landon< no role > then and there lying dead, upon the Oath ofEdward
Myers, Thomas Godfry< no role > , Edward Tinguy< no role > , William Gibbs< no role > , Richard Mills< no role > , William Mosey,
Joseph Carr< no role > , John Wood< no role > , Alexander Kirk< no role > , John Benson< no role > , Anthony Powell< no role > ,
Henry Stephens< no role > , Richard Thorn< no role > , Jon Dory< no role > , William Smith< no role > , and
William Simkins< no role > good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the saidWilliam Landoncame to
hisDeath, do upon their Oath say,That the said William Landon on the
Fourth day of September in the Year aforesaid being in a
certain Chaise drawn by one Horse at Wimbleton in the County
of Surry , And being very much Intoxicated with Liquor, It so
happened that the said William Landon Accidentally Casually
and by Misfortune fell out of the said Chaise, by Means
whereof the said William Landon then and there received one
mortal Fracture in and upon his Collar Bone on the leftside, of
which said mortal Fracture he the said William Landon from the
said Fourth day of September in the Year aforesaid until the
Fifth day of the same Month at the said Parish of St. George Hanover
Square within the Liberty and County aforesaid did languish
and languishing did live, on which said Fifth day of September
aforesaid at the Parish of St. George Hanover Square aforesaid
he the said William Landon of the mortal Fracture aforesaid
did die. And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid
do say, that the said William Landon in manner and by the means
aforesaid, Accidentally Casually and by Misfortune came to his death
and not otherwise. In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner,
as the said Edward Myers< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors, on behalf
of himself and the rest of his Fellows, in their presence, have to this
Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the Day Year and Place
First above written
