Informations taken this Ninth day of
February 1774 at the Parish of St. martin in the
Fields within the Liberty of Westmr . in the County
of Middlesex upon an Inquisition touching the dear
of a Man unknown lying dead in the said
Parish Liberty and County.

Ellen Roades< no role > Servant to Mrs. Mary Langdon< no role > in Long
Acre in the Parish of St. Martin in the Fields on her Oath saith
that on Sunday the 30th. day of January last the Deced came
to Lodge at Mrs. Langdon on the second Floor, Says that
he has lodged there eversince, and never went out of
the House in that time to Depts. Knowledges Says that she
attended him every day, and that on Sunday Night
last, (Febry 6th.) a little after Nine o'Clock Deced rang his
Bell and desired Dept. to get him a Pot of Porter which
Dept. fetched and carried to Deced in his Room and left
it there, then went down Stairs leaving the Deced alone
in his fore room, Says that she did not see him afterwards
until about Nine o'Clock on Monday Morning l [..]
(Febry 7th.) Dept. went into Deced's Room in order to
Light his Fire, when Deponent saw the Deced lying
upon his Right side on the Floor in the Fore Room
his Cloaths being very Bloody and a great deal of
Blood upon the Floor, Says that the Deced's Skull was
open and some of his Brainscome out, and Deced
appeared to be dead. Says that she saw one Pistol or
more upon the Floor, That she was frigtened and went
to acquaint Mr. Lowis's Servant there with upon the
First Floor, Says that Mr. Smith and some others were
called who went to the Deced. Says that she believes the
Deced shot himself and that the Deced for a Day or
two before walked hastily about his Appartments, and
looked very Wild and confused
