Informations taken this Tenth day of
January 1774 at the Parish of St. George Hanr.
Square within the Liberty of Westmr. in the County
of Midsex upon an Inquisition touching the death
of Lady Dodington Montagu< no role > lying dead in the
said Parish Liberty and County.

John Dent< no role > Footman to Lady Dodington Montagu the
Deced late of the Parish of St. George Hanover Square on
his Oath saith That he has lived there almost three Years
That the Deced was about Eighty Years of Age as Dept.
believes, and weak and infirm That that the Deced
on Friday Night last Supped in her Dining Room
alone, That this Dept. after Supper went down Stairs
leaving the Deced alone in the Dining Room, Sitting
upon a Couch with a Table before her and two
Candles upon it, Says that Deced told him that when
the Maid had Served her Ruffles in her Night Shift
Dept. and the Maid were to go to Deced, Says that
in about Eight Minutes, the Maid (Eliz: Hare< no role > ) and
this Dept. were going up Stairs, and whilst upon the
Stairs they heard the Deced Groan in the Dining Room
upon which Dept. and said Hare went in to the Room
and there saw the Deced lying down upon the Floor
with her Fare down wards, near the [..] hamber Room Door
with her Cloaths on Fire, and one or both of
the Candlestiks upon the Floor near the Deced,
Says that he endeavoured to extinguish the Flames
called up two of the Maids to the Deced, and then
went to fetch the Surgeon and Apothecary , who
soon come to the Deced, and Says that the Deced
died there in a little more than an hour
and Dept. says that there was no Person in the
Dining Room with Deced from the time that he left
