Verdict of the Jury touching the Death of John Clay< no role > .
That the said John Clay< no role > on the 28th, day of July 1773 at the
Parish of St. George Hanover Square in the Liberty of Westmr. being
in a certain Lime Barge then and there being in a certain River
called the River Thames and near unto the Flood Gates, it so
happened that the said John Clay< no role > having a hand spike in his
hand and using it betwixt the head of the Barge and the
Compshed with an intent to save the Base from running
against the Bank, the said Hand spike gave way and
slipt from him by means whereof he the said John Clay< no role >
accidentally casually and by Misfortune fell from the said
Borse into the said River, and in the Waters thereof was then
and there suffocated and Drowned, of which said Suffocation
and Drowing he the said John Clay< no role > then and there Died And
so the Jurors say on their Oath that the said John Clay< no role > in
manner and by the means aforesaid accidentally casually and
by Misfortune came to his Death and not otherwise. and that
the said Hand spike was moving to the Death of the said
John Clay< no role > , and is of the Value of One Shilling andinthe
Property
