Informations taken this Fourth day of July
1772 at the Parish of St. Margaret within the
Liberty of Westmr. in the County of Middlesex upon
an Inquisition touching the death of Ralph Rutledge< no role >
lying dead in the said Parish Liberty and County.

Alexander Affleck< no role > of Parliament Street Westmr. Cabinet
maker on his Oath saith That on Tuesday last in the Evening (June 30.) the
Deponent went with Ralph Rutledge< no role > the Deced, Mr. Dunn
and Mr. Stout to a place upon Mill Bank near the
Turpentine House where the Deced Mr. Dunn and this
Dept. went into the River Thames to bath themselves, Says
that the Deced could Swim very well, and sworn towards the
Middle of the River and then Sworn down the River with
the Tide, Mr. Dunn and this Dept. being then together neat the
shore, Says that he did not see the Deced afterwards alive
it being then between Nine and ten o'Clock in the Evening
says that they got a Candle & Lanthorn went to look for him
and made all the Enquiry they were able but could get no
Account of the Deced, says that there was no other person
in the water with the Deced, and Dept. believes that the

Deced was Accidentally Drowned
and Says that he saw the Deced yesterday
at the Spread Eagle upon Mill Bank Westmr. and
was informed that he was taken up there, out
of the Thames Drowned.

John Christian< no role > of Barnaby Street Southwark Victualler
or his oath saith, That yesterday Afternoon this Dept. and
four of his Neighbours took a Boat at Lambeth Stairs, intending
to go to Bath themselves, Says that they crossed the Thames
and rowed up Mill Bank towards Chelsea Says that he
saw in the Thames the Head of a Man, almost above water,
That he took held of the Deced's Hair and pulled him to
the Shore That the Deced was drove downwardsupwardswith the
Tide and appeared to be almost upright, That the Deced
was dead and appeared not to have been very long in
the Water and that he saw no Marks of violence upon
the Deced.
