Informations taken this Tenth day of
December 1771 at the Parish of St. James
within the Liberty of Westmr. in the County
of Middlesex upon an Inquisition touching the
Death of George Laing< no role > lying dead in the said
Parish Liberty and County.

Sarah Jackson< no role > Servant to the Honoble Henry
Seynour
< no role > Conway in the Parish of St. James Esqr . in the Capacity of House Maid on her
Oath saith, that she has lived there almost two Years
and found George Laing< no role > the Deced there, who served the
General as Porter, Says that the Deced appeared
to be very Disconsolate and unhappy yesterday, and
retired to his Lodge within the Owler Gate very early in the Afternoon
That, the Deced came into the House this Morning
about half an hour after Seven o'Clock, when he looked
wild and disconsolate, and took a Letter for the General
Steward, and returned about Nine o'Clock, when he
said to Deponent, Tho' you took the Pistols from me
"last Night by God, I will find something that will do it,
and then went to his Lodge, & Dept. did not afterwards
see him alive, Says that a little before Ten o'Clock
this Morning Dept. being in the General Apartment
heard the Report of a Gun or Pistol, as she thought,
and ran down into the Yard, when she saw a Smoke
issuing out of the Deced's Lodge and a Smell of
Gun powder, which inclined this Dept. to think that
the Deced had shot himself, Says that she opened the
Outer Door which was latched, but not Locked, and
say that no Person from without could open it That she
called Mrs. Laing the Deced's wife, saying that she was
afraid the Deced had that himself, upon which she wait
with Dept. to the Lodge & Mrs. Laing went in, and called
George, and came out immediately, Says that shefetched
Mr. Preed who keeps the Sign of the two Chairmen who went
