Infomations taken this Seventeenth
Day of October 1771 at the Parish of St. John
the Evangelist within the Liberty of Westmr .
in the County of Middlesex upon an Inquistion
touching the death of a Man Unknown lying
dead in the said Parish Liberty and County.

William Caldwell< no role > Fetchman to John Scott< no role > Esqr. upon
Mill Bank Street in the Parish of St. John the Evangelist Westmr.
on his Oath Saith, That he was watching his Master's
Brewhouse yesterday Morning about two o'Clock, when he
saw the Deced lying down upon his Back in Mill Bank
Street before the House of Mr. Joseph Bordolph< no role > Sugar baker
with his Breeches down, Says that he spoke to the Deced
and shook him, but Deced was not able to make any
Answer, Says that about three o'Clock Mr. Emerton one of the Watchman
of St. John's Parish came up, and assisted this dept
to lift the Deced to the side of Mr. Bardolph's House
where they left him, and then went away, Says that
he thought from the looks of the Deced and his being
Speechless that he was then dying, Says, that about a
Quarter after four o'Clock. Mr. Blosset another watchman
and this Dept. went to the Deced, and found him in the
same place alive,but appearing to be dying, when they
fetched some Litter from Mr. Scott's Stables, and laid some
of it upon the Ground under the Deced and some upon
him, Says that it then Rained and was very cold
That he saw the Deced again in the same place a little
after five o'Clock, when he was dead. Says that he
observed no Marks of violence upon the Deced, And
this Dept. Says that Emerton the Watchman at three o'Clock
told this Dept. that he found the Deced in the Kennet there
at a Quarter before One o'Clock, and had lifted him into
the Footway near Mr. Bardolph's House, That Mr. Curtis
saw the Man lying there a little after three o'Clock and had
told him that he might come into Trouble for offering him to
Eye there
