Frances Newbury< no role > Wife of John Newbury< no role > Laborer on her
Oath saith That on the 27th. of August last she went to see the
Deced Mary Spires< no role > in the Westmr. Hospital who appeared to
be in good spirits and told Dept. That the Night before her
Husband had given her some halfpence to buy him a Shirt
"That she went and Could not find one and that she intended
"to buy a bit of Salmon, but could not, That she staid some
"time and on her return William Spires< no role > Asked how she
"came to stay so long, to which she Answered Ask about
"and if you didn't like it you may lump it, and then took
"the Bellows and threw at said William Spires< no role > , who was
"in Bed and that said William Spires< no role > then threw an
"Earthen Plate of her, but believed that he did not
"intend to hurt her, and hoped God would forgive him
"and said that there was no Person in the peace when the Affair
"happened but herself and her Husband William Spires< no role > ."

Jane Gilbert< no role > Sister to the Deced, (the Wife of Samuel Gilbert< no role >
of Chelsea Fishmonger ) on her Oath saith, That on the day after
the Deced was brought to the Westmr. Hospital Dept. was informed
by one of the Nurses that she was there, and that afternoon saw
the deced in said Hospital who told Dept, That on the Night
"before her Husband William Spires< no role > gave her Money to buy
"him a shirt and that she could not find one. That she their
"asked him for Money to buy some Solmon, that she went out
"and staid longer then Ordinary, and on her return that her
"Husband threw a Plate of her Head, and Cut her Head
"Says that said William Spires< no role > and the deced above a Year
"ago lodged with Dept. and that they used to Quarrell
"frequently, and said William Spires< no role > often beat the Deced
