Informations taken this Second day of Septr.
1769 at the Parish of St. James within the Liberty
of Wesmr . in the County of Middlesex upon an
Inquisition touching the Death of Joseph Woodward< no role >
a Labourer lying dead in the said Parish Liberty and
County

James Buckley< no role > a Labourer of St. James's Market
on his Oath saith, that he was employed by a Person
belonging to Mr. Kuhff to go with the Deced and Charles
Sheldon< no role > to clean out a Hole or Sespool under part of
Mr. Kuhff Work shop situate in the Hay Market in said
Parish of St. James Weswtmr . Says that about Ten o'Clock
last night Dept. began to work there with the Deced
& said Sheldon, That they stood in the Workshop and
with a pail drew up a great Quantity of think water
& Dirt out of said Hole, and when they could get up no
more with the Pail, Dept went down a Ledder into the
Hole, and with a Shovel filled theseveralPait several
Paines with Dirt, but finding it very offensive, and
his age sight failing, he came up not being able to stay
longer there, says that the Deced then went down into
the Kole and filled the pail with Dirt Several time
and then came up without making Complaints, but
said that there was not so much small at that time
as the Night before (where he had been of work there as
he in found Dept) Says that said Sheldon then went
Down, and filled the Pail a few times, but returned up
in about five Minutes, saying that his Eyes were
Offected and that he could not stay there, upon which
Dept. went down and after Staying there about five Minuts
and filling Several Pails he came up, the Small in the
Hole being very Offensive, Says that the Deced and the
Dept. afterwards went down by Turns Several times
until about Two o'Clock, when Deced went down, into
the Hole, and on hearing the Deced Cough there, and dream
