Informations taken this Twenty third day
of December 1768 at the Parish of St. John the
Evangelist within the City & Liberty of Westmr. in
the County of Middlesex on an Inquisition
touching the Death of Mr. Basti (whose Christian Name is unknown
lying dead in the said Parish City Liberty & County

Robert Curtis< no role > of Market Street Horse Ferry Road in the
Parish of St. John the Evangelist Westmr. Perrivigmaker , and
Beadle of the said Parish on his Oath saith That on Monday
last about Noon (Decr. 19th.) Mr. Foley and two other Men
come to Depts. House and informed him that a Man lay
dead by the Thames side on Mill Bank, having been
Murdered Says that he went with the Men immediately
and saw the Deced lying by the side of the Thames near Mr. Spains's Timber
Yard on Mill Bank in the Parish of St. John the Evangelist
Says that the Deced lay on his Back with a Brocaded
Waistcoat laid over his Face and Breast, having a
Flannel Wastcoat, Shirt, Breaches, Sword belt, Shoes
Silver Shoes & Knee Buckles, and Stockings on, but
there being neither Coat Hat or Sword, Says that the
Deced was Dead, and that he had a Wound on each
side of his Mouth, & one in his upper Lip, and the lower Saw bone
on the right side of his Mouth was broke, Says that he
found a Pistol by the side of the Deced with the Spring
down and Pan open, as if it had been discharged, Says
that a small Tin Powder Flask with Powder in it, and a
Leaden Bullet, were found near the Body, and a
Closp Kinfe open, Says thatthata Man that Dept. found
Standing by the Deced, gave Dept. two six pences which he
said he had taken out of Deced's Pocket. and that it was
all he had, Says that he returned home and sent the
Bearers, who soon after brought the Deced into the
Burying Ground belonging for said Parish where Dept.
observed a Wound on Deced's Head, and Says that he
does not know the Deced, Says that the Deced's Cloaths
were Wet, and that the Thames had flowed that Morning
further on Shore, than the Place where Deced was found
