Informations taken this Seventeenth
day of September 1768 at the Parish of St Ann
[..] the Liberty in the County of
Middlesex on an Inquistion to making the Death
of Mary French< no role > Clot the Wife of William French< no role > [..]
then and there lying dead.

Andrew Sheriden< no role > Shoemaker a Lodger at the House of Mr.
[..] Forms (in the fore Garret) situate in little
Newport Street in the Parish of St. Anns Westmr . on his
Oath saith That the Deced and her Husband William
French
< no role > were lodgers in the same House in the back
Garret adjoyning to this Depts lodging, Says that the
Deced was in her lodging yesterday and Deponent
does not remember to see her go out, but Deced spot
to Dept. about three o'Clock in the Afternoon, she
being then in her own Room, Says that he was
then at Work in his own Room adjoining and continued
there until a little after five o'Clock, when he
(not hearing the Deced move in her Room) locked
thro the Key hole of the Door between both Rooms,
and saw the Deced kneeling, as he thought, at the
feet of her Bed, Says that he was claimed and
immediately went to Mr. Butler in Porter Street
and patched him to Deced's Room door which was
locked and the Key on the outside of the lock, Says
that he Unlocked the Door and Mr. Butler and
Dept. went in, and found the Deced hanging by a
Cord fastened to an Iron Nail drove unto the
Window Post and tied around the Deceds Neck, Says
that Mr. Butler with a Knife out the Cord, and
Deced was laid upon the Bed, She being Dead but
not Cold, Says that the Deced's Husband went out
yesterday about Eleven o'Clock in the Forenoon, and
that no Person was in the Room with Deced in
the Afternoon, Says that the Deced has been
Melancholy and low Spirited her about three months
last past, even since a Fire happened in the House
were Deced lodged.
