An Inquisition Indented taken for Our Sovereign Lord
the King at the Parish of St. Martin in the Fields within the Liberty of the Dean and
Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter Westminster in the County of Middlesex the
Twenty fourth day of March in the Sixth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third
by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith
and so forth before Thomas Prickard< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the
said City and Liberty, On View of the Body of Nicholas Weigal< no role > then and there lying Dead, upon the
Oath of Benjamin Aked< no role > , Thomas Child< no role > , William Borrimere< no role > , William Rose< no role > , Edward Welch< no role > Henry Jordan< no role > James Murphey< no role >
William Hewlitt< no role > , Rice Jones< no role > , John Heather< no role > , Joseph Waine< no role > , John Solomon< no role > , John, Leonard Lansenbury< no role > ,
John Scott< no role > , and Charles Greene< no role > good and lawfull Men of the said Liberty duly
chosen who being then and there duly Sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King
when, how and by what Means the said Nicholas Weigalcame to his Death, do upon
their Oath say, That the said Nicholas Weigal, not being of sound Mind Memory and
Understanding, but lunatick and distracted, on the Twenty third day of March in the Year
aforesaid, at the Parish aforesaid within the Liberty and County aforesaid, one End of a
certain Piece of small Cord unto a Wooden Rail at the Head of Bed in the Lodging Room
or Apartment of him the said Nicholas Weigal, in the Dwelling House of David Preserves,
instant and being in Cecil Court , in the said Parish Liberty and County, and the Other End
thereof about his own Neck, did fix, tye, and fasten, and there with did then and there hang,
suffocate, and strangle himself, of which said Hanging, Suffocation, and Strangling, he
the said Nicholas Weigal then and there died. And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath
aforesaid, do say, that the said Nicholas Weigal, not being of sound mind, memory and
Understanding, but lunatick and distracted, in Manner and by the Means aforesaid,
did kill himself. In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner, as the said
Benjamin Aked< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors, on the behalf of himself and the rest of
his said Fellows, in their presence, have to this Inquisition set their Hands and
Seals the Day Year and Place first abovewritten
