Informations taken this first day of April 1763
on an Inquisition taken on View of the Body of John
Gale
< no role > lying Dead in the Parish of St. Margaret in
the City and Liberty of Westminster , in the County
of Middlesex .

Thomas Ross< no role > a Lodger with Mary Craven< no role > at the Black boys in the Bread
Way Westmr. on his Oath saith That on Tuesday Night last he
lay at Mrs. Craven (where deced also lodged) and that they
both laid in the same Bed, says that he went out on Wednesday
Morning about ten o' Clock, leaving the deced in Bed, who was
then very ill, as he believes, with a Consumption, Deponent
Says that he then went to Lord Egmont (whom he Served is
the Capacity of Under Butter) and was employed in His
Lordships Business all day, and returned to Mrs. Craven
a little after ten o' Clock on Wednesday Evening, and not
before, to lye there, as usual, says that he did not see
the deced there, than That he staid till near twelve o Clock the
Night in the Tap room, and was informed by Mrs. Craven
that the Deced had been gone to Bed, as she believed, since
Nine o' Clock, says that he went into the Bed chamber
where he and Deced used to lye, and not finding the Deced
there, Deponent came down again, and acquainted Mrs.
Craven thereof, whereupon she desired Deponent to go
and see if Deced was gone to the Necessary, upon which
Deponent went out and was followed by Mrs. Craven
but did not find the Deced in the Necessary, And in
coming back discovered the Deced hanging by a Cord
fastened to a Rafter in a Shed belonging to said Mrs.
Craven, says he took hold of Deceds hand which was
Cold, and Deponent verily believes that Deced was then
Dead, Says that Mr. Smith and Mr. Holmes were called
there, and assisted Deponent to cut the Cord, and the
Deced was laid on the Floor, Says that the Deced was
used to be low Spirited and that the frequently wished he was Dead and that he knows of no Quarrel
the Deced had with any Person.
