The Application for this Mans. pardon being of a Singular nature it may not be improper to observe upon it to shew (however respectable the applications may be) the impositions that may be and are produced with the Secretary of State This recommendations of wood Stated that he was in a Stage of Disorder that he must die and that all that was wished was that he might be free pardoned to die at home with his friends who were respectable from information which I received I requested permission to take his pardon to the gaol, I had wood called out and without intimating my suspicion of the description ask'd the Turnkey respecting his in disposition, his appearance at the same time convincing are of what I know was the fact, he informed me he had been a little indisposed by a veneral Complaint and had beenin the Sick ward. happening to be at the old Bailey at woods. Trial a Man of genteel appearance who was in the Court did say he would give a handsome sum to get him liberated, how far he might have exercised his ability to succeed is not possible to trace what is judged is only more surmise but it is true and unquestionably so that the Letter stating him as dying was a Gross and glaring misrepresentation. It is to be hoped wood will make the best use of this Ingenuity by which he got his liberty as the above Remark will always remain of record. his companion sample is a most dangerous thief.
