Harts concerning Willm. Smith< no role > 's confinement in Tothillfield
Bridewell :-I happened to call at the Rose and Crown Westminster
about eight weeks ago where I had a pint of Porter, there were
four or five Persons in the house testing for liquor as I was going
out of the Top- room I happined to Kick a Stick with my foot,
which I took up; not Seeing what Sort of Hick it was, and
the room being almost dark the Candle being Surrounded [..]
those that were testing up and placed near the door, [..] deprived
[..] me of determining the quality of the Stick, I went from thence
to the two Swans in Tothill Street, where I intended to lodge
that night; two Serjeants came in one, said he had last his cane; Ire flyed,
that I had picked-up a Cane, which I deposited in my Lond-
lady's hand for the purpose to be deliver it to any that could
prove it to be their property. I declare I did not know it be a
cane till I came to tie it with candle-light at the two Swans

Next morning I was going to my home at Heekney
[..] I should take it as Singular [..]
Be so Obliging if Occation Requires to [..]
