the Defendant in this prosecution
maketh oath and Saith that a bill of Indictment
was found against him for an assault on the above
named John Short< no role >
in October Sessions last to which
this Deponent hath given Bail and pleaded not
Guilty And this Deponent further saith that he
was obliged to quit this Kingdom on very urgent
business for Ireland on or about the second day of
December last and that he returned from Dublin
for the sole purpose of appearing and taking his
Trial on the said Indictment at this present
Sessions but did not arrive till the third day of
January instant And this Deponent further
saith that not having correulted any Solicitor and
being wholly ignorant of the Practice of the
