appears by the Court Books belonging to Christ's
Hospital aforesaid that at a Court holden on
the 21st.. day of September (being Saint Matthew's
day) a PresidentTreasurer and other Govrs..
were chosen for such Hospitals respectively And
it also appears by such last mentioned Court
Books that an Annual Election of Governors was
continued at subsequent Courts holden in
Christ's Hospital aforesaid till in or about the
year 1587 from which time until in or about
the year 1655 the like Courts for such Election
as aforesaid appear by the same Court Books
to have been several times held but not Yearly
or in the same regular manner and it doth not
appear by any of the Court Books belonging to the
aforesaid Hospitals or any or either of them
-that such Annual Elections on Saint Matthews
day were kept up or observed after the said Year
1655 from which time or soon after until the Year
1683 in appears that the Governors were chosen at
General Courts or Committees holden at the said
Hospitals respectively and that in the said Year
1683 and for several years after the President
Treasurer Governors and Officers of the said
Four several Hospitals were from time to time
appointed by certain Commissioners authorized
by his late Majesty King Charles the Second
for the regulating of the said Hospitals and that
as well in the last as in the present Century
down to the present time the President Treasurer
Governors and Officers of the said Hospitals have
been from time to time appointed at the
Nomination and by the choice of the respective
Governors of such several Hospitals at their
