The Humble Petition of the Church Wardens and Overseers of
the Poor of the Parish of Chipping Barnet
in the Liberty of Saint
Alban.

his Wife and their six Children
namely Edward< no role >
aged about Eleven years George< no role >
aged eight years and upwards
Joseph< no role >
aged five Years and upwards Rebecca< no role >
aged about four years John< no role >
aged two Years and upwards and also a female child aged about two months
whose name is not at present known were by an order under the hands
and Seals of C.J Kerby and I. Warner Esquires two of his Majesty's
Justices of the Peace
for the said County bearing date the tenth day of August
one thousand seven hundred and ninety six Removed to the said Parish of
Chipping Barnet
[..] from and out of the Parish of Friern Barnet
in the County of Middlesex
as being the place of their last legal Settlement
That the legal Settlement of the said Edward Marsh< no role >
and Sarah
his wife
and their said Six children being in the said Parish of Friern
Barnet
by Reason that the said Edward Marsh did rent and Empty
upwards of Forty days within the said Parish of Friern Barret
Tenements of the yearly Value of Ten Pounds and hath not since gained
any legal Settlement elsewhere
Your Petitioners therefore humbly pray Your
Worships that the said Order of Removal may
be Quashed and that they the said Church Wardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Chipping
Barnet
may be Reimbursed the Costs and Expences
that they have wrongfully in this case
sustained pursuant to the Statute in that Cope
made
