A General description of Materials & Workmanship
to be used & perform'd in building a Brick Bridge
near Forty Hill in the County of Middlesex
Vizt

Digger
To dig out for the several Foundations of the piers
abutments & Wing Walls, at least 2 feet below
the Bed of the Rivulet, the Soil so dug out to
be remov'd, deposited, & fill'd in or laid to make the
approach to the Bridge, when & as often as shall
be required; to dig up the approaches to old bridge
& reverse the Level making, the same descendant
to the rivulet, & deposite fill in & use the Soil in
manner & for the purposes aforesaid, to dig Trenches
for the Current & dam out the Water from washing
the Foundations White Building

all Implements Etc usd in performing the
said Work shall be provided at the Contractors
Expence

Bricklayer
To build the several Walls, Abutments Piers & Arches
of the Hughts Extents & Thickness with solid
Spandrills as high at the Soffites of the Arches ,
& as set forth in the Plans; to pave through the
Arches with brick on End laid in Mortar & Grouted,
the Bricks to be laid & flush'd solid in Mortar; every
four Course grouted, with hot grout as high as, &
including the top of the Springing Walls to the
Arches; together with the Crown of all the Arches.

The whole of the Top Surfaces of the Arches &
Piers to be coverd with Clay to the thickness of
Eight
