Sir,

I have duly considered the Papers
which you did me the honor of transmittins
in Your Setter of the 1st.. instant; and I am
to acquaint you that it has been the Rule
of this Department, to avoid as much as
possible all interference respecting the
interior and municipal provisions of the
Militia Laws I agree in opinion with
the Magistrates of the County of Middlesex
that notice ought to he given by the
Commanding Officers, to the Treasurers of the
respective Counties of all casualties occuring
in the Embodied Militia by Death, Desertion,
or Discharge and by Premotion from the
Ranks in order to prevent releif being
continued to the Families of the Men after
the right thereto has actually leased: but
it appears to me that a Regulation for
that purpose, which in its operation is
to supersede the orders of the Justices of the
Peace given in conformity to the existing
Laws
